Before we left the U.S. a lot of folks had asked us what they could send us. So, we put together this "wish list"...
- Clif or other protein bars
- MRE's (Wal-Mart has some for about $5), Mac n' Cheese and anything else that only needs hot water
- CHOCOLATE and any fruity candy (like hot tamales, jelly beans, skittles)
- TJ's trail mix and goodies (salmon jerky, cafe rio candies, dried berries, pretzels, etc.)
- awesome instant coffee and teas
- packages of tuna or salmon
- packets of condiments from fast food restaurants (surprise us!)
- sauce packets
- your old magazines
- spices (garlic powder, ground pepper, curry, cumin, etc.)
- electrolyte powder, Gu packets, hot chocolate powder or powdered soymilk
- bungee cords
- basic math workbooks, coloring books, crayons/markers/pencils for our neighbor kids to use when they visit our house
- anything solar-powered
I'm overdue for an update on our adventures here. I hope to post one next week when we go to Lusaka, where I can go to an internet cafe. During training, we have been living in a village setting with a wonderful host family just outside of Chongwe (about 30 minutes driving from Lusaka). Since I haven't come across any internet cafes here, I have internet access only through my "Zam-phone" (Zambian cell phone)- which has been a treat- but typing is slow going :)
July 2010, we headed to Zambia for 2 years of service with Peace Corps. We're living in a rural village in Luapula, Zambia and working with subsistence farmers. We teach fish farming, animal husbandry, business, HIV prevention and how to live positively, nutrition and sanitation, and even basic computer skills. Here's our story...
